Sunny is a member of Girls' Generation (SNSD), the South Korean girl group formed by SM Entertainment that debuted on August 5, 2007. She was the last member to join the lineup, having first trained at SM Entertainment from 1998 before leaving for Starworld, where a planned duo called Sugar never launched. Singer IconiQ recommended her return to SM in 2007, after which she joined the group ahead of their debut. Girls' Generation went on to release seven Korean studio albums, most recently Forever 1 in 2022, and the single K-POP ScreaM 1 in December 2024.
