Seulgi was the first future member of Red Velvet to be cast by SM Entertainment, joining as a trainee via audition in 2007, and was introduced through the SM Rookies trainee group in December 2013 before debuting as one of the four original members of Red Velvet on August 1, 2014. Prior to debut, she made a cameo in labelmate Henry's "Fantastic" music video and was also featured in his song "Butterfly".
