Red Velvet: Discography & Career Overview

2026-06-19

A chronological look at Red Velvet's releases, lineup, and activity — grounded in verified release data.

Red Velvet debuted on August 1, 2014, under SM Entertainment. The group's current lineup of five members — Irene (leader, lead dancer, lead rapper, sub vocalist, center, and visual), Seulgi (main dancer, lead vocalist), Wendy (main vocalist), Joy (lead rapper, sub vocalist), and Yeri (sub vocalist, sub rapper, and maknae) — has remained consistent across their active career. Their catalog runs from 2015 through 2022, encompassing three full-length studio albums, multiple mini-albums, and one repackage. Notably, their album titles — The Red, The Velvet, Perfect Velvet, The Perfect Red Velvet — directly name the dual identity embedded in the group's name, alternately foregrounding one half or the other before converging.

Debut & Early Releases

The group's first formal mini-album, Ice Cream Cake, was released on March 17, 2015, led by its self-titled title track. Their debut full-length studio album, The Red, followed on September 9, 2015, with "Dumb Dumb" as the lead single. The spring of 2016 brought The Velvet (March 17, 2016), whose title track "One of These Nights" anchored the release. Taken together, The Red and The Velvet gave formal shape to the two named sides of the group's discography. The mini-album Russian Roulette, with its self-titled title track, followed on September 7, 2016.

A Productive 2017

Output intensified through 2017. Rookie, a mini-album led by "Rookie," arrived on February 1, 2017. The summer release The Red Summer (July 9, 2017) followed, with "Red Flavor" as its title track. The year closed with Perfect Velvet (November 17, 2017), the group's second full-length studio album, fronted by "Peek-a-Boo." Early 2018 brought The Perfect Red Velvet (January 29, 2018), a repackage that introduced "Bad Boy" as a new title track — and whose title draws both halves of the group's named identity together into a single phrase.

Later Catalog

The year 2018 also saw the release of the mini-album #Cookie Jar. The group followed with Sappy, a mini-album, in 2019. After an extended gap in full-group studio output, Red Velvet returned in 2022 with Bloom, their third full-length studio album. As of this writing, the group remains active under SM Entertainment.
